Group accommodation Rijswijk (RSW-2610-G)

This T farmhouse was built in 1852 on the dike in the village of Rijswijk gld. The front house is on the level of the dike, the middle house slightly lower, and the back house on the level at which the village was built. The original structure of the old farmhouse is still present, the atmosphere and the colours used are from the 19th century. The guiding concept of the holiday home is that it is recognisable for every generation; both older and younger people will find elements or furniture from ‘their’ time. This interior did come about under architecture, so that it has become a balanced whole, with modern convenience. The location in the Betuwe region is emphasised in the wallpaper with blossoms, where both modern and classical wallpaper have been used.

In the accommodation, as a result of building against the dike, there are quite a few height differences. The entrance is in the back house, where there is a communal kitchen and a lounge area. From this common area, you can go down a few steps to the basement (with cloakroom, toilets, sauna) or, via a slightly higher staircase, upstairs where four large cosy rooms are arranged on the bel-etage. Each room here has its own bathroom with toilet. Another floor higher are the other rooms along a wide corridor, with again each room (except one) having its own bathroom and toilet. There are two staircases from the highest to the lower floor.  The accommodation stands on a spacious piece of land with meadows, where sheep walk and a wide yard, where it is good to play.

Exploring the floodplains together

The accommodation stands on the outskirts of the village of Rijswijk, on the dike. The village has a medieval church and alternating newer and monumental buildings. Across the dike are the floodplains of the river Nederijn. The floodplains are partly nature, partly agricultural. The nature area consists of several ponds surrounded by softwood riparian forest. Numerous birds influence this place. In the floodplain stands Wheat Mill De Hoop from 1703. Rijswijk is in the Betuwe with winding dykes, many small villages and 8 kilometres from the monument town of Buren. At 15 walking minutes, the ferry crosses the river to Wijk bij Duurstede. This historic town with city centre has plenty of restaurants and shops, a city wall with gate and on top of it corn mill Rijn en Lek. Whereas the Betuwe is mainly ‘cycling landscape’, with several rounds with different ferries possible, on the ‘other side of the river’ lies the walking landscape: walking from Wijk bij Duurstede to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug, with Leersum, Amerongen and surroundings.
