Achterveld is located in the Gelderse Valley and has been part of the municipality of Leusden since 1969.
Annual events include a big carnival parade, a cycling race (Tour de Junior) including fairgrounds and a bravery, a peace race, winter walks, a sledding hunt and a Christmas market. A special national monument is the Neo-Romanesque Church of Joseph, praised for its architecture and church councils. There are two museums in Achterveld: a private collection of Peugeots and a can of museums with a very large collection of coffee and cans of Douwe Egberts. In the village there are also a swimming pool and a children's farm.
The location in the Gelderse Valley offers many possibilities for nature recreation in the form of hiking and cycling, but there is also a special riding and walking trail open in 2011. But it is also easy to reach Leusden or Amersfoort.
