Zwiggelte is an esdorp in the province of Drenthe, belonging to the municipality of Midden-Drenthe. The village is northwest of Westerbork and has about 300 inhabitants in the core and 420 inhabitants including the outer areas. Zwiggelte is located on the Drenthse Hooglanden and is an active village in the area of business and recreation in the village and its immediate surroundings.
Zwiggelte is central to include radio observatory in Hooghalen, Memorial Center Camp Westerbork Museum Orvelte including sheepfold, Emmen Zoo, Kabouterland Exloo, open air museum 'Ellert and Brammert' Schoonoord, Visitor center National Park Dwingelerveld, National Dolmen Information Center in Borger, the Sprookjeshof Tynaarlo and it Horseshoe, a farm that include riding, driving and riding holidays are booked.
Zwiggelte itself is mostly surrounded by fields and in addition, there are about 1500 hectares contiguous to forestries in area. Several day excursions are right in the surrounding woods and several marked hiking, biking and equestrian trails. A wide range of single and multi-day events such as markets, festivals, music, theater, sports and exhibitions is also available in and around Zwiggelte.
Larger villages in the area include Westerbork and Beilen. The more built-up area is located south of Zwiggelte and north of the esdorp are some green areas with hamlets, villages and communities.
