Sleen is a village in the Dutch municipality of Coevorden. Before 1998 it was also the capital of the municipality of the same name, but nowadays it has about 2250 inhabitants as a village of the municipality of Coevorden. The building, which was the town hall of Sleen until 1998, is now used as a multifunctional centre, but as one of the 15 national monuments in Sleen.

The oldest traces of habitation date back to about 4500 years ago. The dolmens in this area are the silent witnesses of this. Sleen was once the capital of the Zuidenveld game of the dingspel. This game was a jurisdiction that consisted of the fairs of Sleen, Emmen, Odoorn, Zweeloo, Oosterhesselen, Dalen, Schoonebeek and Roswinkel. In 1518 Sleen became an independent schultambt.

Sleen has a large three-aisled church. The church is located on the old Heirweg from Groningen to Coevorden. The Gothic choir was probably built at the end of the fourteenth century. With its 68 meters, the church tower is the highest church tower in Drenthe. After the spire burned down in 1867, the tower was crowned with a lantern, which was replaced by the current needle spire in 1923. In 1883 the restoration of the church was completed.

Sleen is located on two long-distance hiking trails: the Pieterpad and the Drenthepad. In addition, Sleen borders on the Sleenerzand nature reserve, which is 1,600 hectares in size.
